Where: Settings → Features, then the Job costing card on each job
- The Owner or a Manager turns on Job costing in Settings → Features.
- Set Labour cost rate (per hour) in Settings → Jobs.
- On a job, press Add cost for each material or expense: Description, Category, Amount, and optionally Supplier and Date.
- Enter Labour hours and press Save hours (or let Timesheets record them).
- Read the profit, margin and badge at the top of the card.
Watch out: the card shows only to people who can see prices, and never to the Field role. Costs are entered excluding GST.
The figures
With costs only, the card shows Revenue, Cost, Gross profit and Margin, and a badge: On track, Thin margin or Making a loss.
For bigger jobs, press Set estimate and enter the Contract value, Estimated cost, a Revised estimate if it changes, and Your % complete, then Save estimate. The card then shows Cost to date, Complete, Cost to complete, Earned value, Profit to date and Billed to date.
Labour
With Timesheets on and time recorded, labour hours come from recorded time. Otherwise type them in Labour hours. Labour is costed at your rate from Settings, Jobs.
On the Free plan
Profit shows on your first few costed jobs. After that the figures are locked until you upgrade; you can still record costs.
The figures are estimates to see how a job is tracking. For tax and accounting, use your accounting software, such as Xero.
