Painter software that quotes the way you price
Price the job room by room or by the square metre, with the prep and the coats where the client can see them. When they add the hallway halfway through, it goes on the job and onto the invoice. Free up to 20 jobs a month.
Start freeKey takeaways
- Each room, surface and coat on its own line, priced per square metre, per item or as a flat fee, with GST worked out.
- Prep, paint and sundries quoted separately, so the client sees why a repaint over cracked plaster costs more than one over sound walls.
- Extra rooms agreed on site go on the job as new lines and carry onto the invoice, so nothing added halfway is lost.
- Exterior jobs booked a day at a time against one job. When rain comes, drag the day to the next dry one.
- Free under 20 jobs a month, then $25 a month including two users.
Built for how painters actually work#
- Quote by the room or the square metre. Each line has a quantity, a unit and a price, so 96 square metres of walls at two coats, the ceilings, five doors and frames, and the paint itself all read as separate lines. Choose whether the client sees every line or only the total on the PDF.
- Extra rooms on the job, not in your memory. Clients add rooms once they see the first one done. Put the extra work on the job as its own lines when it is agreed. The invoice is built from the job, so it arrives with everything on it.
- Exteriors that move with the weather. Book each day of a repaint as its own visit on the same job. When the forecast turns, drag the visit on the calendar or the dispatch board and the crew sees the new day.
- Before and after, on the job. Photos of cracked render, peeling eaves and the finished wall save against the job with captions, and carry from the quote to the job to the invoice, so a dispute about what was there starts with evidence.
- The SWMS before the ladders go up. Tick the hazards that apply from the hazard library, such as ladders, work at height and hazardous chemicals. The crew signs on their phones and the SWMS is kept as a signed PDF. The controls are still your call.
What changes when the paperwork moves to the phone#
| The old way | With Chippie | |
|---|---|---|
| Quoting | A lump sum worked out in the ute | Rooms, surfaces, coats and paint priced line by line |
| Extra rooms | Agreed at the door, forgotten by invoice time | Added to the job as lines and carried onto the invoice |
| Exterior days | A morning of calls every time it rains | The day's visit dragged to the next dry one |
| Proof of condition | Photos lost in the camera roll | Captioned photos saved against the job |
| Invoicing | Typed up on the weekend from the quote | Raised from the job, extra rooms included |
How a painting job runs in Chippie#
A painting job is priced on area and condition. The same three bedrooms are a two-day job or a four-day job depending on the prep, and the client will usually find another room once the first is done. The quote has to show the prep, and the invoice has to catch what was added.
-
Measure and itemise
Walls and ceilings by the square metre, doors and frames by the item, prep as its own line, and paint and sundries beside them.
-
Send the quote from the job
The client opens a branded quote page from the email and accepts it there, without an account. Acceptance turns it into a job.
-
Book the days
Put a visit on the calendar for each day the job needs and assign the crew. Exterior days move with the weather by dragging them.
-
Add what the client adds
When they ask for the hallway too, add it to the job as new lines and note who agreed to it, with a photo of the wall before you start.
-
Invoice from the job
The invoice is built from the job's lines, extra rooms included, and sent from site with your bank details and, if you use Stripe, a card payment link.
Chippie has no separate deposit feature. If you take a deposit, put it in the quote terms and raise an invoice for it when the client accepts. It also does not do job costing: it shows what you quoted and invoiced, not what the job earned once the paint bill came in.
An interior repaint, line by line#
Three bedrooms, walls and ceilings in two coats, with five doors and frames, from a painter registered for GST. The figures are an example, not a price guide; your rates and your paint supplier decide yours.
| Prep, fill, sand and spot-prime walls | $640.00 |
|---|---|
| Walls, 96 square metres, two coats at $14.00 | $1,344.00 |
| Ceilings, 36 square metres, two coats at $16.00 | $576.00 |
| Doors and frames, 5 at $95.00 | $475.00 |
| Paint and sundries | $520.00 |
| Subtotal, ex GST | $3,555.00 |
| GST at 10% | $355.50 |
| Quoted total | $3,910.50 |
Prep on its own line is what lets the client see why their walls cost more than the neighbour's, and paint on its own line is the one you change when the supplier's price moves before they accept.
