Turf questions#

How much turf do I need?
Length times width gives square metres. Add about 5% for cutting around edges, or more for curved beds, and round up to a whole square metre. A 12 by 9 m lawn is 108 m², so order 114 m².
What about an odd-shaped lawn?
Split it into rectangles, work each out and add them, or measure the longest length and width and raise the allowance. The more curves, the more you cut away.
Is turf sold by the square metre?
Yes, Australian turf farms price and sell by the square metre, so that is how this calculator answers. The size of a roll or slab varies by farm and variety.
Do I need soil under new turf?
Usually a layer of turf underlay, about 100 mm. The soil calculator works out the cubic metres for the same lawn.
