Two jobs, worked out

Volume = length x width x depth, in metres. The order adds the allowance and rounds up to the next tenth of a cubic metre.

Width 1.5 m
Depth 75 mm

Arborists often have woodchip from the job itself, which turns this into a line on the quote rather than a delivery.

Mulch questions#

How much mulch do I need?
Area times depth. Beds 12 m long and 1.5 m wide mulched 75 mm deep take 12 x 1.5 x 0.075 = 1.35 m³. With 10% extra and rounding up, order 1.5 m³.
How deep should mulch be?
Commonly 50 to 100 mm. Thinner lets weeds through; much thicker can stop water reaching the soil. Keep it pulled back from stems and trunks.
How many square metres does a cubic metre of mulch cover?
About 13 m² at 75 mm deep and 10 m² at 100 mm (one cubic metre divided by the depth in metres).
Is mulch sold by the cubic metre?
Yes, Australian landscape yards sell bulk mulch by the cubic metre, which is why this calculator answers in cubic metres. Bagged mulch is sold by the litre: 1 m³ is 1,000 litres.
