- Each reminder is your invoice email again: the same PDF and pay link, with the reminder's wording.
- Reminders stop once the invoice is paid, or once the client says through the pay link that they've paid.
- Pause one invoice, or switch reminders off for one client.
- Included on Pro ($25 a month, 2 users) and Team ($45, 4 users). Off until you turn it on.
The reminder emails, word for word#
These are the emails Chippie starts you with, shown for an example invoice the way a client reads each one on the day it goes out. Chippie fills in the client's name, the invoice number, the amount, the due date and your business name for every invoice, and attaches the invoice PDF and the pay link.
3 days before due
7 days overdue
14 days overdue
Change the timing or rewrite any of them in Settings, untick one to stop it, or add more, up to 6 in all. Preview shows yours as your client will see it.
Send automatically, or ask me first#
| Mode | What happens | |
|---|---|---|
| Send automatically | Each reminder goes out on its day, at your send time, without asking you | |
| Ask me first | Due reminders wait for you. Chippie tells you once a day; you send or skip each one, or send them all |
Ask me first suits a business where most clients are regulars. You see who's about to get a reminder, and skip anyone you've already spoken to.
Will reminders annoy my clients?#
A reminder that arrives with the invoice attached and a link to pay gives the client the easiest way to sort it, without either of you on the phone. The rules keep it from turning into nagging:
- Each reminder goes once per invoice. If several fall due on the same day, only the latest is sent, so nobody gets two emails in one morning.
- Reminders stop once the invoice is paid, or once the client says through the pay link that they've paid. If they pay by bank transfer, mark the invoice paid when the money lands.
- Pause for this invoice holds them while you sort something out, and the same card shows the next reminder and every one already sent.
- For a client you'd rather ring, tick Don't send automatic payment reminders to this client on their page.
Reminders go to every invoice that has been sent and isn't paid, with a due date and a client email address. With Xero connected, an invoice marked paid in Xero comes back to Chippie as paid.
Late fees, interest, and what comes after the last reminder#
Australian small businesses were paid an average of 6.0 days late in the June 2026 quarter, according to Xero's small business data (published 25 August 2026). A reminder is the first step in dealing with that. Two things it doesn't do:
- Add a late fee or interest. Only charge either if your quote or terms said so before the work started. business.gov.au's letter of demand checklist says to include an interest rate only if it was in the contract.
- Replace the next steps. When the last reminder gets no answer, ring. After that it's a letter of demand and, if it comes to it, small claims. How to chase a late invoice in Australia covers each step.
Quotes that get no reply#
Quotes are followed up differently. Ask Chip "which quotes need a follow-up?" and it lists quotes sent a week or more ago that the client hasn't answered, then re-sends the ones you pick. Chip shows you each email before it goes and nothing is sent until you approve it; it never changes the price on a quote, and it can only do what's on its tool list. The quote follow-ups help page has the steps.
