No card needed. Professional is €15 a month for two users, Team €25 for four.

A one-visit handyman quote in euro in the Chippie app for a door, a tap, fence boards and shelves, with a photo of each

Key takeaways

  1. Quote at the door with the callout charge, labour and parts on their own lines, and send it before you start.
  2. Landlords and letting agents are one customer with many properties, each with its own address, access notes and history.
  3. The invoice goes from the driveway with your IBAN on it, and the customer taps "I've paid" when the transfer is done.
  4. Parts from the merchant go on the job with the receipt photographed, so they reach the invoice.

How a handyman's day runs in Chippie#

Four odd jobs at one house in Cork: priced at the door, done, invoiced and paid before the next address.

  1. Quote at the door

Callout charge, labour and parts as separate lines, sent from the phone. Declan accepts from the email without an account.

  2. Do the job

Acceptance makes it a job. Photos and notes save against it, and it opens and edits with no signal.

  3. Add the parts

Anything you picked up on the way goes on as a parts line, receipt photo attached.

  4. Invoice from the driveway

Complete the job and the invoice is ready, with your IBAN on it.

  5. Book the next one

Paid by transfer or in cash. The next job is already on the calendar, and repeat work runs as a recurring job that books the next visit.

For a business of small jobs, the part that pays is not losing twenty euro of parts on every invoice. Parts go on the job as lines, so they reach the invoice.

What Chippie does for handymen#

  • Quote at the door, start straight away. Callout charge, labour and parts on their own lines, sent from the phone. The customer accepts from the email on their own phone, and acceptance turns it into a job.
  • Parts bought on the way. The hinges, the tap washer and the timber you picked up go on the job as parts lines, with a photo of the receipt, so they make the invoice and not the glovebox.
  • Landlords and letting agents. One customer can hold many properties, each with its own address, access notes and job history. For a regular check on one rental, set that rental up as its own customer and run the check as a recurring job.
  • Paid before you leave. The invoice is built from the job and sent from the property. Customers pay by bank transfer to the IBAN on it or in cash, and you mark it paid when the money arrives.

Handymen: your questions#

Is there a free app for handymen in Ireland?
Yes. Chippie's free plan covers one user and up to 20 jobs a month, with quotes, invoices and scheduling in euro. A handyman doing several jobs a day will pass that, and Professional removes the limit.
Can I charge a callout fee?
Yes. Add it as its own line on the quote at a fixed price, so the customer sees it before agreeing.
Do I need to be registered for VAT to use it?
No. Answer No to "Are you registered for VAT?" on the Tax tab in Settings and your quotes and invoices show no VAT line.
Can I keep a record of what is at each property?
Yes. Add the ready-made general types on the Assets tab in Settings, such as a hot water system, a roller door or a pump. Each one at a property keeps its notes, photos and every visit you record.
How do customers pay me on the spot?
By bank transfer on their own phone, to the IBAN on the invoice, then they tap "I've paid this invoice" on the link and you confirm it. If they hand you cash, mark the invoice paid yourself.
Does Chippie handle Irish VAT?
Yes. Set your country to Ireland and every quote and invoice is in euro, with your VAT number and VAT at 23%. Mostly on 13.5% work? Change the rate on the Tax tab in Settings. Not registered? Answer No to "Are you registered for VAT?" there, and no VAT line is shown.
Does Chippie work with Xero?
Yes. On Professional and Team, Chippie sends your customers, invoices and payments to Xero, and an invoice paid in Xero shows as paid in Chippie.
Does Chippie work with no signal?
Yes. Your week's visits and the jobs and quotes you have opened stay on the phone. With no signal you can open them, change prices and lines, add photos, get your customer's signature and send the quote. It all goes through when the phone is back in range.
