Most rows are a draw: both tools quote, schedule and invoice properly, with VAT. The rows that differ are depth on Tradify's side and price on Chippie's.
Irish VAT on the invoice#
Chippie runs in euro with Irish VAT, Irish addresses and Irish dates. Set your rate once, 23% standard or 13.5% for the building services that qualify, and it applies to every quote and invoice. Your VAT number, the VAT-exclusive unit prices and the VAT by rate print on the invoice, as Revenue sets out. Leave the VAT registered box unticked and no VAT line appears, which is right below the registration threshold.
When is Tradify the better choice?#
- You need timesheets or job costing today. Tradify has them from Pro. Chippie does not have them at all.
- You need purchase orders or reporting. Both sit on Tradify's Plus plan. Chippie has neither.
- Your books are in Sage or QuickBooks. Tradify syncs with both; Chippie syncs with Xero only.
Tradify has been trading since 2013 and is a mature product. If the list above describes your business, the extra cost is buying you something.
When is Chippie the better choice?#
- You are a sole trader or a small crew, and you mainly need quotes, jobs, invoices and VAT.
- Per-user pricing stings: the person doing the books should not cost a full seat.
- You want to start on a free plan and stay on it under 20 jobs a month.
- You want something you can use on the first day, from your phone, with nothing to set up.
How do I move my data across?#
Tradify exports your customers as a CSV file. Send it to us and we load it into your Chippie account at no cost, usually within the day. Past quotes and invoices do not come across, so download PDFs of any you need: Revenue expects business records kept for six years.
