The handyman app for quoting, doing and invoicing in one visit

A sticking door, a dripping mixer tap and shelves in the alcove, each priced before you start and invoiced before the next address. Free up to 20 jobs a month.

No card needed. Professional is £15 a month for two users, Team £25 for four.

A one-visit handyman quote in pounds in the Chippie app for a door, a tap, fence boards and shelves, with a photo of each

Key takeaways

  1. The callout charge, labour and parts are sent as a quote from the doorstep before you start.
  2. A letting agent is one customer, with each property's key safe code, access notes and history under it.
  3. Parts from the merchant go on the job with the receipt photographed, so they reach the invoice.
  4. The invoice goes before you leave, and the customer pays to the sort code and account number on it.

How a handyman's day runs in Chippie#

Four odd jobs at one house in Bristol, from the doorstep quote to the invoice paid, before the next address.

  1. Quote at the door

Callout, labour and parts sent from the phone; Gary accepts without making an account, and the quote becomes the job.

  2. Charge the parts

Merchant parts go on the job as lines, with the receipt photo attached. Photos of each fix save to it, signal or not.

  3. Invoice at the property

Complete the job and the invoice is ready, with your sort code and account number on it.

  4. Paid, next address

Paid by transfer or in cash, and the next job is waiting on the calendar. Work a customer wants every month runs as a recurring job.

For a handyman, the money that leaks is the fifteen pounds of parts that never made it onto each invoice. A parts line with the receipt photo on it closes that gap.

What Chippie does for handymen#

  • Priced on the doorstep. The callout, your labour and the parts go on a quote you send from the phone before you start. The customer accepts it from the email, and the quote becomes the job.
  • Merchant runs, charged. Two hinges, a tap cartridge and three fence boards bought on the way go on the job as parts, with the receipt photographed, so they end up on the invoice.
  • Lettings work. A letting agent is one customer with every property listed under it, each with its key safe code, access notes and history. Work between tenancies is a job at that property, invoiced to the agent.
  • Paid on the day. The invoice is made from the job before you leave. The customer pays to your sort code and account number, or hands you cash, and you mark it paid.

Handymen: your questions#

Can a handyman use Chippie for free?
Yes. The free plan is one user and up to 20 jobs a month, with quotes, invoices and scheduling in pounds. Several jobs a day will take you past that, and Professional removes the limit.
Can I add a callout charge?
Yes, as a fixed-price line on the quote, so the customer sees it before saying yes.
Do I need to be registered for VAT to use it?
No. Answer No to "Are you registered for VAT?" on the Tax tab in Settings and your quotes and invoices show no VAT line.
Can I keep a record of what is at each property?
Yes. Add the ready-made general types on the Assets tab in Settings, such as a hot water system, a roller door or a pump. Each one at a property keeps its notes, photos and every visit you record.
Can customers pay me before I leave?
Yes, by bank transfer from their phone to the sort code and account number on the invoice, then they tap "I've paid this invoice" for you to confirm. If they pay cash, mark the invoice paid yourself.
Does Chippie handle UK VAT?
Yes. With your country set to the United Kingdom, quotes and invoices are in pounds and carry your VAT number and VAT at 20%. Not registered? Answer No to "Are you registered for VAT?" on the Tax tab in Settings, and your documents show no VAT.
Does Chippie work with Making Tax Digital?
Yes, through Xero. On Professional and Team, Chippie sends your customers, invoices and payments to Xero, and an invoice paid in Xero shows as paid in Chippie. Xero is HMRC-recognised software for your Making Tax Digital VAT returns.
Does Chippie work with no signal?
Yes. Your week's visits and the jobs and quotes you have opened stay on the phone. With no signal you can open them, change prices and lines, add photos, get your customer's signature and send the quote. It all goes through when the phone is back in range.
